Finished Friday

I finished one thing I can show you. That's my Chevron Scarf from Last Minute Knitted Gifts.

Chevron Scarf

For some unknown reason, I didn't think it was going to be this pink. Don't know what I was thinking. It is pretty though - and a traffic stopper. I used Koigu KPM (#1175-18) and KPPPM (#P308-40) on size 4.5mm needles.

What's On My Needles Wednesday

I thought I would have time to take a picture of my new project, but that didn't happen. Hopefully it won't be finished by next week so I have something fun to show off. I am making another Clapotis. I made one a year ago with fingering weight. This time I am trying a sport weight cotton. We'll see how it goes.

I cast on a Chevron Scarf (Last Minute Knitted Gifts) last November and when it got too long to work on when I'm on the train, it was vanquished to the pile next to the couch. I pulled it out when we were traveling to So Cal over the holidays and made some major progress. I picked it up again a couple of days ago.

Chevron Scarf WIP

It may not look like it, but it's 55" long at this point. I have about 20" to go! Woot! I am using Koigu KPM and KPPPM. For some reason, I didn't think it would be so pink. I'm not a "pink" girl, but it looks pretty.

That's it for today. I have no idea what I'm going to post tomorrow. This 365 commitment is going to be a bit of a challenge. Quite simply, my life isn't that interesting.

Utter cuteness

The hazard of knitting lots of projects is accumulating a lot of little balls of left over yarn. There usually isn't enough to make a functional item with what's left, unless you start combining.

I came across a key chain a few months ago. It's a mini sock blocker. Debbie Jennings of Felt Up Designs came up with a great idea. For $3.00 (plus s&H) you get a cute accessory and a pattern. Quite frankly, I love mine.

Here are my first batch of mini socks:

Sock Blocker Keychain Socks
(LtoR top : Koigu, Zarina, Cherry Tree Hill, Schaefer Anne, Austermann
LtoR bottom: Opal, Socks That Rock, Jitterbug, Jitterbug, Koigu)

One note about the pattern - the recommended needle size created a sock too small for the sock blocker. I had to move up 2 needle sizes for them to fit properly. In fact, it's the 2nd one in from the right on the bottom row. I've knit a few more since I finished these, but I still have to sew in ends, add a loop, etc. I have about 4 more finished. They knit up quickly, use less than 20 yards and can be coordinated with the socks I am wearing that day. My goal is to knit a mini sock in all the yarns I have used for socks.

If you knit socks, you need a sock blocker key chain. Show off - be proud of your skills!!

Chevron Scarf - Last Minute Gifts

It is very rare that I don't use the recommended needle size for the pattern, as long as I'm using the recommended yarn, I'm usually dead on with gauge. On US5's the swatch was fine, the scarf was not.

I was 2/3rd's done, and I ripped the whole thing out. ARGH!!!!!! I moved up to US8's and knew that this was going to require some steam blocking. This is the Dr. Who scarf from hell. It is majorly too long and I can mummify myself with it. Still, I love the color combination, and in that sense, it is very pretty. A few months ago, I selected another colorway to produce another Chevron scarf. It is hot pink and black. It is loud, proud and awesome. I will take another crack at the Chevron scarf, now that I have "experience".

Details:

Yarn: Koigu KPPPM
Color: P200 and P428
Pattern: Chevron Scarf from Last Minute Gifts
Yardage: 175 yds per skeins, 2 of each color
Needle: US8
